Twenty eight people were injured and one woman was killed when the roof beams of the Renaissance Theatre playhouse buckled and the projection booth fell on top of several people sitting below it. The theatre was about one third full, with around 300 patrons, and they were watching a Western thriller. Mrs. Etta Middleton, a seamstress, had both her arms and legs broken and was killed in the accident. It took firemen an hour to recover her body.
