After his wife left him due to his drinking, James Yancey, a thirty-five year old jockey, committed suicide in his hotel room. It is unknown when he died, but the owners of the hotel discovered his undressed body when they went to clean his room at 2:00pm. There were two half empty bottles next to the body of whisky and lysol. The owners immediately summoned a policeman from the 135th street station who took the body to Harlem Hospital where it was officially declared dead.
