John Diamond, Stevens Reavis, Joe Carter and Eva Scott found in possession of 1000 slips of paper with numbers written on them. “Deponent states that on said date accompanied by Patrol mal [sic] Richard Broderick, he had the defendant John Diamond under conversation for the period of about 30 minutes, to wit, from 9-45 to 10-15 o’clock A.M. in front of 231 West 143rd Street, That said defendant was in conversation with a group of unknown men. That at about 10-15 o’clock A.M. defendant Diamond entered premises #231 West 143rd St., followed by deponent and Officer Broderick. ”“That defendant entered the cellar therein and walked to the rear of the cellar. That the defendants Reavis, Carter, and Scott were seated at a table therein separating money from slips of paper containing numbers. That deponent asked defendant Diamond who was the owner of the said slips of paper and defendant Diamond admitted that the same belonging to him, and that the defendants Reavis, Carter, and Scott were working for him.” “Deponent further alleges that the numbers on all of the aforesaid slips of paper are records of a share chance or interest in numbers, sold, drawn or to be drawn in a game of chance commonly known as policy, for the reason that all the defendants admitted to deponent that all of the aforesaid slips of paper are policy slips.”
