Daniel Miller, a white Communist, addressed crowd on stand in front of Kress's store. Soon after he started speaking, a brick was thrown at the store, shattering a window. Police then dragged him down and dispersed the crowd. The crowd reassembled across the street, where a second white speaker, Harry Gordon, climbed a lamppost to address them. Police pulled him down, and arrested him and his companions (all white, except for Diabolo), throwing them in a police car and driving them away.
