In an endeavour to avoid hitting a group of small boys who were playing on the street, a taxi hit Aflred Benjamin who was walking down steps from the sidewalk into his own home. He was badly injured, with a broken rib, internal injuries to the chest, and lacerations to the forehead and scalp.
