After being accosted by an unknown man at West 135th Street and Lenox Avenue, and asked if he “wanted to see the real Harlem,” one Irving Miller was taken to 60 West 140th Street, where defendant Donable was sitting on the stoop. The two men then took Miller to the top floor of said premises, followed by defendant Labat and four other unknown men. Once there, they threatened him with knives – and “made motions in their hands as if they had revolvers” – before robbing him of his wallet [containing $7] and a wrist watch.
Newspaper: "Police say that complaints from some thirty persons, victims of a gang which is said to operate in the apartment, had been received and the officers were keeping the place under surveillance from a nearby roof when they witnessed the holdup. Running around to the door of the apartment, the detectives forced entrance and made the arrest. The four other men escaped."
