"One man is dead and another is in Harlem Hospital in a serious condition as the result of a blast that startled the vicinity when a still blew up in the basement of a private house at 225 West 132nd Street Monday afternoon. The dead man, Samuel Lawrence, 27, expired at 11:30 p.m., some ten hours after the explosion, as a result of the burns and injuries he received... Just what caused the explosion, police were unable to say. The force of it was so great, however, that it blew the glass out of the front basement window."
