The deponent [Jenkins] was approached by the defendant [Thorpe] while she was “about to do shopping” at West 142nd Street and Eight Avenue. After “bet[ting]” her that she did not have $3 – to which she opened her bag to show him that she did – the defendant stole said cash and ran away.
