"Led personally by Assistant District Attorney William Goldman, a squad of police raided several Harlem apartments late Saturday night and arrested seven women and twenty men on vice charges. A quantity of obscene literature and pictures was confiscated and the prisoners were locked up in the West 135th street station pending arraignment. The raids were characterized by Goldman as the first move in a campaign to clean up the city, and were 'eminently successful'... The third raid at 117 West 144th street netted a Puerto Rican woman, eight white men and three colored. The woman was recognized by Detective Doyle as one Peggy Williams, whom he had already arrested on February 16 on a charge for which she was convicted and placed on parole."
