"Early show goers at the Franklin Theatre, 132nd street and Lenox avenue, had their money returned to them and the house remained in darkness all day, Tuesday, as the result of the action of the Motion Picture Projectionist Association, a non-union organization, in ordering the walkout of the operators employed at that theatre when the management refused to consider a contract submitted by the association, asking for certain improvements of the operators working conditions, last weekend. Two white operators, called in to replace the striking association members, were set upon Monday night as they left the theatre, by a group of association sympathisers and chased out of the neighbourhood, with the warning 'not to return.'"
