"Bitter criticism has been leveled at George Gregory, noted athlete and director of the of the Harlem Center, following his action in denying permission to a group of ladies to sponsor a small benefit for the medical department of the center... When pressed for a reason for his decision, he remarked that he was sponsoring a midnight show for the Center on May 25 at the Harlem Opera House and he was afraid that the bridge affair might hurt his attendance."
