"The various groups organized to aid Ethiopia in the present crisis were urged to amalgamate by John H. Shaw, Ethiopian consul general in New York, at a meeting held Sunday at Salem M. E. Church under auspices of the American Committee on the Ethiopian Crisis. "I very much doubt the sincerity of some of the schemes which have been presented to me," he said. "Some of them are definitely commercial and the gentleman involved obviously want Ethiopia to help them rather than to help Ethiopia... Mr. Shaw [added] that more than 2,000 persons have asked him if they could go to Ethiopia as physicians and nurses."
