After locking up her Amsterdam Avenue apartment for the afternoon, the deponent [Lechle] returned to hear “a noise” in her bedroom. After “calling out,” the deponent saw the defendant [Wallace] “make their escape out the window to the fire escape,” having stolen 2 wedding rings. One Robert Giles witnessed the defendant “rapidly ascend” to the roof of the deponent's building and, shortly after, leave out the front entrance of a neighboring building. A police officer later arrested the defendant at West 123rd and Morningside Park, where he admitted to having broken the deponent's window with a brick.
