"Charges made by The Amsterdam News during the past four years of discrimination, favoritism and administrative inefficiency at Harlem Hospital were substantiated last Friday by testimony submitted to the sub-committee on sanitation and health of the Mayor's Commission on conditions in Harlem at a hearing in the Seventh District Municipal Court, 447 west 151st street... Albert M. Boyce, a special investigator of the commission who spent six weeks in the hospital, testified that the hospital is nearly 50 per cent overcrowded, that as a result, the staff of physicians, surgeons and nurses are responsible for from two to three times as many patients as the Hospital Department recommends as normal, that the equipment at the hospital is inadequate, old and inefficient, and that regulations for sanitation are unenforced"
