"Disorder, which twice rose to such a pitch that Chairman Hayes was forced to call five minute recesses, marked the continuance Saturday of the hearings by the Mayor's Commission on Conditions in Harlem, which is investigating the disturbances of last March 19-20. The day's proceedings were frequently interrupted by demonstrations against the police and particularly against Lieutenant Samuel J. Battle, whom the crowd of about 700 accused of being a "stool pigeon" for the white officers. The hearing took place in Municipal Courthouse at 447 West 151st Street."
