"Taken ill at her home, 227 West 143rd street, two weeks ago, Mrs. Louisa Franklin Matthews, died on March 5, at Harlem Hospital of complications. Mrs. Matthews, formerly of Columbus, Ohio, and prominent in religious and social life of that city, came to New York and injected herself in the religious work of St. Marks M.E. Church, where she served in the choir for many years. Funeral services, which were held at St. Marks Church on Thursday evening at eight o'clock, were attended by a large crowd of friends and relatives. The many floral pieces attested to the esteem and respect in which she was held."
