A blaze in a 128th tenement building is believed to have been started by someone who carelessly threw a cigarette into a dumbwaiter. The quick thinking of two passing cab drivers helped to prevent any causalities. When Walter Gray passed the building and saw the flames at 12:30, he immediately rushed to the nearest fire box and turned in an alarm. He then returned with another cab driver (name unknown) to get tenants within the building out. The flames spread to the roof and firemen worked for two hours to put out the blaze. The extent of the damage is unknown, and an investigation into the origin of the fire was ordered.
