The two defendants [Turpin, Green] robbed the deponent [Samuels] “by means of a confidence game known as pocketbook dropping.” While at Woolworths 5 and 10 cent store, at East 120th Street and Third Avenue, defendant Turpin “engaged deponent in a conversation, and walked out of said store with deponent.” Outside, Turpin “called attention to the fact” that her friend, defendant Jean Green had found a pocketbook “with a large amount of money therein.” Thereupon, “by trick and device,” the two defendants “induced deponent to withdraw [$1255] from the post office.” The deponent then handed the money over to the two defendants, for the purpose of “changing the big bill” from the pocketbook that defendant Green claimed to have found. Defendants Green and Turpin then “disappeared” with said money.
