The sub-commission of the general conference commision of the A.M.E. Church decided during a meeting that the Emanuel Church in Harlem will host the 1936 conference. This decision was reached despite attempts by Rev. Ira T. Bryant (a leader of a Southern block of A.M.E. ministers) to prevent the conference from being held in New York City. Six A.M.E. bishops attended the meeting.
