"Earl Tucker, famed as the originator of the "Snake Hips" dance and Layfida Mack, familiar figure on local stages, are both recovering from wounds said to have been inflicted on each other during a quarrel Friday in front of the Hotcha Restaurant, 134th Street and Seventh Avenue.... [The] altercation is said to have started over another woman... who [Tucker] is believed to have been very friendly [with] in the past. When Miss Mack protested, it is alleged, the two became immersed in a bitter row. Suddenly Tucker, enraged, is said to have produced a knife and stabbed Miss Mack in the abdomen. Gripping him before she fell, she is alleged to have wrestled the blade from his grasp and plunged it into his abdomen."
