After locking a vacant apartment for the day, the deponent [Black, superintendant of said building] returned the following morning to find the kitchen window broken and a quantity of lead pipes and water raisers

After locking a vacant apartment for the day, the deponent [Black, superintendant of said building] returned the following morning to find the kitchen window broken and a quantity of lead pipes and water raisers – valued at around $100 - “cut away and stolen.” A police officer arrested the defendant [Jenkins] leaving the building with “a bundle in his possession” containing said piping. Upon interrogation, the defendant claimed to have “broken into a number of other apartments in the building” over the two weeks prior, and stolen piping in a similar fashion.
