"Demanding 30 per cent reduction in rents, tenants in the apartment houses at 105 Edgecombe Avenue and 582 St. Nicholas Avenue went on strike Thursday morning... in front of both houses, under the banner of the militant Consolidated Tenants' League. The strike in these two houses looms as a forerunner of the general rent strike, which the league is scheduled to call in October unless landlords agree to drastic reductions in rent and to maintain adequate service in the houses."
