After leaving her rooming house residence locked for the day, the deponent [Waller] returned to find the door open and a quantity of clothing and jewelry missing. An hour and a half earlier, one Lilly Hart witnessed the defendant [White] “carrying a bundle” out of the deponent’s room. Two days later, an investigating police officer went to the defendant’s room – which was on the same floor as that of the deponent – and found “part of the dress which had been taken from the room of the deponent.”
