"The auditorium of the Y.W.C.A. was crowded to its capacity Thursday evening when for the second time Gilbert Allen presented "Steal Away," one-act Negro opera, augmented with a musical program by the Swing Low Choir... Many of Mr. Allen's friends accompanied him to his home, 366 West 127th Street, after the performance and helped the composer enjoy his birthday anniversary cake. He was recipient of many gifts."
