"Hallowe'en night may have been just "Stormy Weather" to the rest of Harlem, but in Small's Paradise Ethel Waters was "At Home Abroad," because the annual birthday "Ball" they threw for our brightest star of radio, stage and screen was mellow... In between the cocktails, highballs and sidecars, Charlie Johnson's torrid orchestral senders turned on the "Heat Wave" and went right on to town."
