"An Armistice Day peace parade of nearly 5,000 children made its way through Harlem Monday. The parade marched up Seventh Avenue from 128th Street to 138th Street, and halted at Abyssinia Baptist Church... There a festival was held and a special showing of "All Quiet on the Western Front" was presented. Sponsors of the parade included Walter White of the N.A.A.C.P. and the Rev. A. Clayton Powell, Jr., of the Abyssinia Baptist Church... A feature of the festival was the rendition of a series of Negro spirituals by a special children's chorus."
